School’s out. Summer’s here. June Gloom is upon us. It’s time for REEFCLEANING. Remember to do some periodic maintenance: Recalibrate your probes. Clean your pumps with a good solution of vinegar, EZclean, muriatic acid or the like and keep them running quietly and efficiently. Make sure your lighting is free of salt creep and is shining brightly upon your system. Check your chiller, clean any dust filters so there is free flow of air. It will be 100 degrees in the Valley, so be prepared. Install fans on your tank and sump to help maintain your temperature. Clean out your sump of errant carbon, sand and the like. Cleanliness is next to Godliness or so they say, but every little bit helps keep your biosphere in “working” order, with happy and healthy inhabitants. If you have any additional suggestions, please post them on the MASLAC board for all to see and use.
MASLAC has got some super-duper summer sensations planned for 2008. Our raffles have been great, with Brightwell and Reef Nutrition products, dry goods for all levels of reef, live goods to enhance anyone’s system, including fish, inverts, macroalgae and all kinds of miscellaneous stuff. Come on down.
We have got a GREAT speaker lined up for our SUMMER SPECTACULAR at Reefski’s (and Pam’s) new house in August. He has a 1,000-gallon system he wants to show off, and we all are waiting anxiously to see it. So keep the date open for the August BBQ. Last year we had close to 100 people at the party. It really will be fun for all and all for fun, so be sure to plan to attend. Members and their guests are welcome. The Ventura club will also be attending. (There will be a small fee to offset the food.)
